spacerIf your glass is half full…it’s still only at 50%

asbestos     We’ve all heard the old adage asking the question “Is your glass half full or half empty”? The inference here is that those among us that are positive people or optimists see the glass as half full and those poor souls that see it as half empty are the pessimists. Basically it says that we see the world as we would like either positively or negatively, we have a choice. But, where safety is involved half full is just not enough. We can never accept any number of accidents at work, there is no number that is tolerable. If we expect three accidents our actions will be prophetic and we will probably achieve our expectation. Here is a case in point. Some years ago a Psychologist put together two groups of students of the same ability. He informed one of the instructors that their students were a bright, motivated group. The second teacher received the information that the students that they would be teaching were below average and definitely not self starters. At the end of the term the grades of each group were collected and tallied. What do you think were the results? ……………………The first group received above average grades and the second group received below average grades. They achieved exactly what the teachers thought that they were capable of.

As we begin our new year and make the resolutions to which we have become accustomed, why not include one that might actually save lives? ZERO ACCIDENTS IN THE WORKPLACE IN 2008! If we shoot for the stars, we may not hit them, but will land pretty high anyway.
